Middle Eastern Courtyard Meets Modern Design

Some addresses carry history. This is one of them.

John Dreaper once owned all of it — the land, the blocks, the neighborhood itself. As the city grew and the parcels changed hands, he kept one property for himself. This was it. The last one standing. And it is here, on that same ground, that something new was built — not to replace what came before, but to honor it.

In 2024, brothers Khalid and Mo Halabi broke ground on this home through Amal Homes, a company named after their mother. In Arabic, amal means hope and aspiration — and those values shaped every decision made during construction. The architecture draws from the Middle Eastern courtyard tradition fused with contemporary modern design: a philosophy that turns inward, creating a world of privacy, natural light, and flowing air within its walls. It is a home that breathes.

Both brothers are strong-willed, detail-obsessed, and deeply passionate about the built environment — but they come at it from different directions. Khalid is an engineer drawn to structure, systems, and efficiency. Mo is a designer by education with the hands of a craftsman — someone who can sketch a vision in the morning and fix the plumbing himself by afternoon. They clashed often during construction, and that friction paid off. Every disagreement forced a better decision. The tension between logic and instinct is precisely what made this home what it is.

Amal Homes builds by a single guiding principle: we build as if we will live in it ourselves. No shortcuts. No compromises. Every material chosen with care, every detail considered with intention. This home is the living proof of that promise.

Originally envisioned as an investment property, it did go to market — but the timing wasn’t right. The market was soft, and offers came in below asking. Khalid wouldn’t budge on the price. Truthfully, he didn’t want to. Something about this home, built by his own hands alongside his brother, made letting go unthinkable. The market gave him the perfect reason to hold on, and he took it. Turning it into a short-term rental was the perfect outcome — a way to share something deeply meaningful with the world, without ever truly giving it away.

Today, 5414 John Dreaper Drive welcomes guests for private stays, intimate dinners, curated celebrations, film productions, and experiences that go beyond the ordinary. It is not just a place to sleep. It is a place to arrive.
